Dr. King: Civil Rights Hero and Labor Champion

Monday, January 17, 2022
On January 17th we honor a great man, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A fighter for civil rights, Dr. King played a major role in organizing and inspiring, a nation to stand up for equality and work to end the idea that you deserved less because of the color of your skin.

Dr. King was also a fighter for workers rights and the right to join a union. His famous "I Have Dream Speech" was given at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and was attended by thousands of union members from across the country, including many who took buses down from New York City. One of Dr. King's last acts on Earth was speaking to and walking a picket line for striking Sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee.

On this MLK Day, lets unite together to continue the fight for equality and justice for all. As Dr. King said “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
